Hauk Hauk - Where The Road Turns To Fire

I found a yellow headed stranger on the Yellow Head run
I picked him up and we drove off into the sun
“Go West Young Man” was what the prophets said
But we’re alive and all of them are dead
We took the road from Valhalla to Edmonton and on
Through cattle country, Waterton and beyond
Beneath the blue Alberta skies, brighter than sapphire
Drove the Sun Road, where the road turns to fire

We kept on going with the sun in our eyes
We could have stopped but we never found a reason why
We saw the world change, and the people on the way
Everything a man could want, we passed by every day
We reached his stop and he thanked me for the ride
He shook my hand and he looked me deep in the eyes
Before he walked away, he told me I should look higher
And lay my heart to rest where the road turns to fire

And he sang
Take me home where my ancestors lie
Across the Rainbow in the Sky
When the trees burn red and gold in the shire
I’ll ride alone where the road turns to fire

I was heading north on the 15 freeway
The sky was turning a darker shade of gray
I said it looks like rain to no one in particular
All I need is the road, piece of mind, and this old guitar
The wind blew cold but I don’t fear the cold
Like the changing leaves I know my heart is old
But the road still beckons, fanning my desire
Bury my heart where the road turns to fire

Just like a lone wolf I rode across the border
Rode till I couldn’t get much norther
Staring at the sun, reflecting asphalt desire
When the road turns to fire
Bury my heart where the road turns to fire
